Pristine Beauty Niharika

Whoever quoted that a Miss India has to be a mélange of pristine beauty and brains was right. Niharika Singh, the luminescent Miss India Earth 2005 has the best of both. Her claim to the crown was the author she avidly reads, Ayn Rand. On being asked to name a book she admires, her reply was Fountainhead, which she says, helped her win.

She calls herself a ‘camera baby’ and considers herself a tad short for the ramp. “I’ve always been on camera because I stand just 5 feet 6 inches above the ground,” she quips. But that didn’t deter people from casting the petite beauty as a lead face for various music videos. She has made a mark on the small screen starring in music videos for Lata Mangeshkar, Jagjit Singh and Babul Supriyo. “Since I was a little short for the ramp, I was always on camera!” she jibes.
Ever ready to revel in being green for a cause, the stunning beauty’s heart reaches out to mother Earth. “People know global warming is an evil living and breathing with us and there’s not much we can do. But unity would definitely come in handy to save our planet. Even Rome wasn’t built in a day! It’s only if we start together today to make a conscious effort to be green, that we will see any results in future,” says the feisty lady.
She ranks an experience to a journey higher than reaching the destination. “It is unfair to demand that a Miss India should
always be the one to win a crown at the International pageants, after all the whole world is beautiful and women from all these countries are equally stunning. If I hadn’t won the pageant, I would make full use of the grooming and training I received during a month of training sessions. I would work hard towards emerging as a winner in other walks of life,” says Niharika.

Pristine Beauty NiharikaNiharika’s ‘why not?’ attitude to Bollywood, has landed her three lead roles already! She will be seen opposite actor Himesh Reshammiya in the film A New Love Ishtory being directed by John Matthew Mathan. She’s also starring in  Mudh Mudh Ke Na Dekh Mudh Mudh Ke and Miss Lovely.

“I am very particular about what I do. I would not do something just because it is the 'in' thing. I did not do sleazy music videos when that was the norm. I like

films to be entertaining and I hope I can do various roles and make a mark in the entertainment industry,” she says.

She has also been a popular face for commercials for products like Ponds cold cream, Sunsilk shampoo, Sia Jewellery, Bagh Bakri tea, Milk and Roses soap, Samsung and print ads for brands like Unitech, Samsung, Oasis Telecom, etc. She also reveals her meticulous streak towards the products she endorses. She claims that she wouldn’t endorse a product like tobacco, considering that people would think it’s all right to smoke.

So what’s on her green agenda? “I try and keep my life as simple as possible. I use technology only when required. Besides, I love being nature’s girl since I've spent most of my growing years in the heart of nature. I'm not a city girl at all. I grew up in hill stations and my hometown is in the foothills of the Himalayas. It's my dream to have a beautiful terrace garden where I can feel amidst nature even though I live in a concrete jungle. I eat right and I eat organic all the time. I'm a complete fruit and vegetable person. Apart from that, I’m considering to switch to natural and organic make-up as well. It’s great for the skin and is an ethical purchase too!” Spoken like a true earth angel.
