Beautiful and vivacious, Mumbai girl Amruta Patki has adorned a glittering tiara even before she won the coveted title of Miss India Earth in 2006. We recall her as the lovely lady who won millions of hearts on being presented with the prestigious title.
With an intellectual streak and body to die for, she would easily qualify as a preference for that perfect shot.
She tells us about her brave modeling decision, “I made a brave decision to participate in a local beauty contest (brave because I had never worn a bikini publicly). I had to flaunt my body in a swim wear on stage”, she reveals. “Nevertheless, I won the contest. After my first victory, I still didn't have enough money to make my portfolio. I borrowed the photographs a young photographer had clicked for an editorial for a magazine and I started distributing those pictures. The kind of feedback I got from everyone stunned me and I realized that I really could make my mark in this industry,” she adds.
Post Miss India, the happiest moment of her career was being declared as the 1st Runner's Up for Miss Earth 2006, amidst 82 countries. I am a trained singer in Indian classical music, I used to participate in inter school music competitions and win them too. I also used to act in plays. But modelling was not really on my list of things-to-do, says Amruta leaving us surprised.
We question her to see how green is she herself. “I think each one of us can contribute to the cause with efforts however meager. Planting tress is definitely one. But, as people from the field of media, we need to think on the level of a common man and utilize luxuries given to us by God with certain limitations. My strong middle class upbringing in Mumbai has taught me to be simple in living and high in thinking,” says the pretty lady.
