With the global warming looming large & the international fashion community contributing to help fight it, in its own way, Mega Modelz (MM) has always been seriously committed to the ‘green’ cause. For the same, we collaborated with Conserve India to promote serious and responsible fashion to fight global warming. After a special ‘green issue’ some time back, we decided to present the ‘green fashion’ at its glamorous best through a ‘green calendar’.
MM unveiled its Green Calendar 2010 that promotes eco-friendly fashion among the fashionistas. We got together some of the leading fashion designers to contribute to the calendar. Malini Ramini, duo Parvesh and Jai, Sanchita Ajjampura, Samant Chauhan, Ashima and Leena, Hemant and Nandita, Rohit Verma and Anita Ahuja have all supported this unique initiative. They have come up with wonderful designs especially made for the cause by using eco-friendly material. The calendar is glamorous yet green.
Designers Parvesh and Jai feel that there is a need to recycle things that we use. “We think the Go-Green Calendar of Mega Modelz is a fantastic idea of presenting ethical swimwear, which really shows a different perspective of going green concept in designer wear.”
Rohit Verma, famous for his abstract fashion has expressed similar sentiments. He noted “Go Green" calendar is an extremely innovative initiative taken by Mega Modelz magazine as in this age, one of the biggest threat is global warming. “I said a yes to design bikinis for the calendar as according to me more and more media verticals should not only speak but take an initiative towards this serious cause."
Designer duo Hemant and Nandita, known for their creativity,
richness and opulence of Indian & contemporary styles, spoke about the campaign and were full of praise for the concept: “The Go Green initiative unites every citizens of this planet in an effort to make real and lasting changes to their communities that will protect the environment for years to come. We must be the change we wish to see in the world.”
Designers Hiral and Bhumika said “Let this 2010 year be an eye opener about the effects of global warming and put an accumulated effort towards going green. This is a very positive way of bringing out new ideas and awareness of the ongoing issues regarding saving our planet. Let us all come together to inculcate the “go green” culture in the present & next generation.”
The photographer behind the calendar is Vishal Saxena. Backed by years of experience and known for his creativity, Vishal today is one of the most sought after fashion photographer in India with his studio in Mumbai. He has shot most of the Bollywood stars today along with a huge variety of fashion assignments. Vishal said “I had a lot of fun shooting for the calendar. It was great. When one does work for a cause like this, it feels really good. The models were brimming with energy and the entire theme worked just well. Kudos to Mega Modelz magazine for coming up with such a great idea!”
MM editorial team along with Vishal Saxena had conducted auditions in New Delhi and Mumbai to find the right faces for the green calendar. Auditions were held at Urban Pind, a popular night club in Delhi and at Sarovar Grand Premiere in Mumbai.
MM’s green calendar features many of the well known faces. Shruti Sharma, a well known model and a former contestant at Miss World, Sakshi Gulati, Miss India finalist and the lading lady of Ram Gopal Varma film- Contract, Lekha Raman, top ramp model, Reeth Mazumdar, who is soon making her Bollywood debut, Pranali Wadaskar are on the calendar along with others.
Olga Kirnos, the international make up artist, was in charge of the makeup for the models. Olga’s aesthetic sense has transformed the models and their looks complement the theme of the calendar. Aastha Sharma, in-house stylist from the magazine, ensured that the final look of the models was a perfect fit to the theme.
